Level Up Coaching and Consulting is composed of the dynamic duo Gia and Arend Boersema. Both established as experts in their fields, they offer coaching and consulting services either as a holistic package or through tailored offerings.
Gia provides Research Administration consulting services to private institutions of higher education, academic institutions, and non-profit organizations.
Arend provides leadership coaching, team facilitation, and Change Management consultation for both growing teams in the profit and non-profit sector and to established leaders of all level, with a specialty in healthcare organizations.

Meet the Experts
Who is Gia Boersema?
Gia Boersema has over 15 years of experience in Research Administration. Gia has worked for numerous academic institutions and nonprofit organizations. Her specialty is helping organizations develop strategic leadership and operational management practices for their Research Administrative Units and in helping them engage with other key stakeholders through strategic collaboration of sponsored research activities.
In her current role as Associate Director in the Office of Research Services for University of Pennsylvania she serves as an expert for interpreting, explaining, and applying complex internal and external regulations and policies that ensure compliance with agency and institution directives, and provides expert advice as needed through proposal and award review. She is an experienced change leader and culture builder. Gia received her master’s degree in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from the University of Chicago, her dual bachelor’s degree in Social Work and Business Administration from SUNY Brockport, and is CRA certified.
Who is Arend Boersema?
Arend Boersema was born in Indonesia, as a Dutch citizen. Lived in Haiti, The Netherlands, Belgium, and Ireland, to eventually end up on the other side of the ocean in the States and recently moved from upstate New York (Rochester, NY) to Philadelphia, PA.
Starting out as a teacher and student counselor after getting his Bachelor’s in Social Work and Bachelor’s in Teaching, he decided to continue his education and obtain his Master’s in Human Resources Development from the Rochester Institute of Technology and shortly after became PHR / SHRM-CP certified. In 2021 Arend completed his Corporate and Leadership Coaching training. Additional certifications Arend holds are: PROSCI Certified Change Practitioner, EQ-i and EQ 360 Certificate, 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, DISC Certified Expert.
Arend has experience leading HR departments and providing executive leadership coaching in various healthcare related settings, from assisted living, to behavioral health, to pediatrics. In addition, Arend has taught graduate HRD courses as Adjunct Professor at RIT on topics such as Team Dynamics and Facilitation, Global Culture and HRD, and Leadership Effectiveness for over 8 years.
His recent book “Poetry at the he{art} of Business; Spoken word poetry exploring the concept of company culture & belonging” explores how leaders and team members alike can create a sense of meaning and belonging at work. It offers a selection of short stories and poems intended to help leaders reflect and improve how they lead themselves and the teams they are entrusted to.
